In the First Teacher community, we talk often of lighting up the brain, helping our little ones’ brains to think and grow and thrive. This is a one minute, eleven second video of Lillian and her almost two year-old son. In this one minute and eleven seconds Lillian’s seemingly simple interactions with her son help make connections that will support his love of learning for the rest of this life. His brain is LIT UP.
There are so many things Lillian is doing with her son, organically and in the moment. She starts by throwing a ball into the container, just to pique his interest -- and it works. He immediately becomes aware that there are lots of cool little things around him to manipulate.
Lillian then encourages her son as she pulls over a Lego piece: “You know how to do Legos, right?” When he is hesitant, she puts together the first two pieces, and then tells him, “Your turn!”
There are so many other great moments, little moments that Lillian has with her son in just this one minute interaction. What do you see?
